THERE was not much Ticknall could do to stop Beechwood Mazda Premier Division leaders Ockbrook & Borrowash inflicting a crushing defeat upon them at The Grange on Saturday.

Ockbrook’s Josh Lacey, son of former Derbyshire all-rounder Simon, scored a superb unbeaten century to lead his side to a nine-wicket win.

Ticknall chose to bat and might have set a bigger target than 218-9 if captain Tom Wood had not been run out for 99, having hit 14 fours and a six in a 111-ball stay.

Greg Cork added 33 and Richard Woodburn 29, adding 67 with Wood, but when Wood was out at 193-6 the rest of the innings rather fell away.

When Ockbrook replied, Ethan Berlusconi was leg before to Waseem Fazal from the first ball he faced with one on the board but, from there, George Brandrick and Lacey could not be parted.

Brandrick contributed 71 not out to their partnership of 218 and Lacey finished on 136 not out from 132 balls, with 18 fours and five sixes.
