Village gets set to shine
November 20, 2025

CROWDS of up to 300 people are expected to gather at the end of the month for a village's annual Christmas Lights Switch-on.
The event will take place on Saturday, November 29, at 5.30pm outside the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Barton-under-Needwood.
The lights will be switched on at 6pm, with Main Street closed from 5.15pm to 7.30pm.
Organiser and parish councillor, Sally Bedford, said: “It's my first year organising the event, it'll be really exciting to get people in the Christmas spirit.
“It’s part of what makes Barton special because people come along, we have a good time, and hopefully it will be lots of fun.
“Alongside our Remembrance event that we held this month, the Christmas Lights Switch-on is one of the biggest annual events.”
