FUNHOUSE COMEDY CLUB TO LAUNCH LATEST VENTURE IN ALREWAS

- By EVA MILLETT

A BRAND-new comedy night is set to bring big laughs to Alrewas this December as Funhouse Comedy Club launches its latest Midlands venue in the village.

The Crown Pub will host its first comedy night on Saturday 27 December, headlined by comedian Andrew Bird, with more top acts to follow.

Funhouse Comedy Club, which works with over 50 venues across the East Midlands has twice won Best Midlands Comedy Club awards with leading comedy website Chortle.

Previous acts to have played its clubs on their road to the top include Sarah Millican, Joe Lycett, James Acaster and Rhod Gilbert, who described the clubs as 'among the best anywhere in the world.'

Mike Bottomley, comedian and founder of the club known as 'Spiky Mike' on stage, has been running Funhouse for the past 22 years.

He said: “The reason we chose The Crown is because we've been running shows in Ashby-de-la-Zouch at The Lyric Rooms for many years. The owner recommended The Crown and we thought 'Why not go for it.”
