A HUGE collection of character jugs featuring a who's who of famous faces is to go under the hammer at an auction house in Fradley Park.

- By JOSEPH RICHARDS

More than 300 jugs lovingly collected over half a century will be sold by Richard Winterton Auctioneers on Monday, August 4.

Faces ranging from royalty and entertainment to historical figures and literary personalities beam out from the jugs.

The collection also features a number of Toby jugs and other ceramic figures.

Character jugs typically feature the subject's head and shoulders, whereas a Toby jug depicts a seated figure's whole body.

Auctioneer Richard Winterton said: "It's a veritable gallery of famous faces and perusing them is a real who's who from royalty and historical figures to literary characters and stars from the world of entertainment.

"We anticipate the whole collection to fetch hundreds of pounds but more important is recognising and celebrating the dedication of a true enthusiast for these characterful collectables."
