DELICIOUS: The Autentico Aruba culinary Festival showcases the best the island has to offer

THE Caribbean is one of those sun soaked destinations that's top of many couples’ dream holiday list. But as a solo traveller, I wanted more from my holiday than just sipping cocktails on the sand.

Turns out there’s more to the Caribbean Island of Aruba than beautiful beaches - although they do play their part.

During my week's stay I toured rum distilleries and met fantastic food producers using innovative, sustainable methods. Eating was a huge part of the experience.

Foodies take note: Aruba is groaning with great dining choices, from traditional bakeries and creole restaurants to street food and fancy private dining and meals on the beach. Whatever you fancy, this place has it in spades, with its mix of Caribbean and Dutch charm.

Aruba is an autonomous territory of the Netherlands - it was colonised by the Dutch in the 17th Century - and is one of the richest territories in the Caribbean.

My visit in October coincided with the Autentico Culinary Festival, a coming together of local res taurants and chefs with international guests.

On the beach at the Ritz Carlton Aruba I dined on a special menu curated by Italian-American chef, Christian Petroni.
