AN autograph book featuring the signatures of all four Beatles and a broken guitar string from George Harrison has sold for £7,000 at auction.

The album went under the hammer with Richard Winterton Auctioneers on Monday, February 2, attracting significant interest from bidders in the UK and overseas.

The autographs were collected by Portsmouth teenager Elizabeth Salt - known at the time as Liz McBrierty - after she met John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr when they played the Savoy Ballroom, in Southsea, on Sunday, April 7, 1963.

Elizabeth, now 79 and living in Lichfield, was seated close to the stage when Harrison broke a guitar string during the performance.

"We were sat around the stage when George Harrison broke his guitar string and I picked it up," says Elizabeth.
