|Burton Mail
A DETERMINED 16 Burton Athletes took the trip to Kettering for the second North Midlands Cross Country League match.
First to run was Felix Manlove in the under 11 boys race over 1500 metres.
He good a good start and ran well for 30th and he is now 24th in the league rankings after two matches.
The under 13 boys race saw Riccardo Ferrero and Ernest Allen in action. A strong finish from Ferrero saw him take 13th with Allen in 36th after hurting his shoulder. In the league standings Ferrero is 11th and Allen 24th.
Megan Cheetham, in her debut race at Markeaton, had run well for second place against a Derby AC athlete who had competed for England Schools in the March International in Scotland.
While that girl didn’t make the trip to Kettering, she now faced Marianne Owen from Kettering AC who had also been in the England schools team.
Owen took the lead but Cheetham was tracking her and finished 14 seconds back in a clear second. This means that Cheetham, having done both races, leads the league by two points.
A good turn out in the under 15 boys as they looked to pull back the five points they were behind Charnwood in the team rankings.
