New cafe Fika is inspired by Swedish traditions. ELLIE KENDALL spends time at this fresh concept she hopes will last

THE home of brand new cafe Fika on Broad Quay has seen many changes in the past year or two. It was, for a brief period, a Chinese restaurant which served up bottomless brunches and coffee.
Before that it was an Instagram-mer's haven in the form of bottomless brunch and cocktail bar venue, Aluna. And so, stood outside on a rainy Tuesday lunchtime, I felt like maybe this new concept would be the one to outlast the others.
Fika is inspired by the Swedish tradition of 'slowing down, connecting with others, and enjoying good food and coffee,' and the owners say this is at the core of this new venue. While the inside of Fika does definitely look like somewhere I would love to chill out in, the music and quick-paced service didn’t really fit that vibe.
