Nursery places School chief praises additions but says even more needed

MORE than 100 new nursery spaces will be available at schools in Bristol and the surrounding area from September.
The new nursery places will be spread across seven schools, in the area covered by the West of England Combined Authority (Weca).
The locations include five new nurseries set to open at schools while two existing school nurseries will be expanded.
Weca Mayor Helen Godwin said the news was “welcome progress towards making sure every child gets the best possible start in life”.
Many Bristol parents struggle to find a nursery space amid a desperate shortage in places, with inadequate funding and staff recruitment and retention all factors contributing to closures and cutbacks in the sector.
The 100 new spaces being created in the West of England are among 4,000 school-based places being created nationally from September, with a further £370 million of funding announced last month to support the future of the programme.
