New radiotherapy unit could cut travel for cancer patients

A GRUELLING daily trek for cancer patients may soon be a thing of the past as NHS bosses consider installing a radiotherapy machine in Weston-super-Mare.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) has launched a feasibility study into adding a radiotherapy unit at Weston General Hospital. The announcement follows a campaign led by cancer survivor John Kiely, who endured a six-week course of treatment in Bristol - travelling daily from Weston for just a ten-minute session.
