NIGEL HAVERS TELLS MARION MCMULLEN ABOUT WHY HE'S PREPARING FOR ANOTHER TOUR WITH HIS POPULAR ONE-MAN SHOW
-
You have just turned 74. What do you think the secret is to staying fit and healthy?
It’s in the genes. My mother is 96, she will be 97 in February, and she looks pretty good. I'm still running and still going to the gym. Ever since Chariots of Fire in 1981, I have been running. I trained for four and a half months before we started filming and I’ve been running ever since.
Why are you heading off on the road again in 2026 following sellout dates earlier this year?
Why not? It was so much fun. (Laughs) People had said to me before that I should do it and I was like ‘I'm not old enough’ and they said ‘we think you are’ ... and here I am. I find it much easier being on stage as myself. I don’t mind not having a script. It’s so freeing.
What can audiences expect?
(Laughs) I live up to the name of the show. People love to know the gossip behind particular scenes.
It's 45 minutes, a break and back again and then we can all go home. A bit of magic, which I'm very keen on, a bit of Shakespeare, not a lot, and acting moments.
