A CLOSED down bingo hall next to the Bristol-Bath railway path is set to be demolished and the site will see a total of 390 new homes in three blocks of flats and two new rows of homes.

- Tristan CORK

The plans, for the former Mecca Bingo site on Barrow Road in Lawrence Hill, have been recommended for approval by council officers.Councillors will meet next week, and are advised to give the go-ahead to the proposal, which will see more blocks of flats built near the St Philip's Causeway flyover in east Bristol.

The plans have been a long time in design - developers Galliard Apsley Partnership said they have spent four years working with the council on the proposals for the bingo hall site on Barrow Road, which was originally warehousing before Mecca built a huge bingo hall there in the mid 1990s.

That closed in around 2015, and was later a gym, but the site was mothballed when PureGym moved to the Eastgate Retail Park in 2022, with plans for new homes being proposed after that.
