Football Clarke and Duff early favourites to become Gas' next boss

BRISTOL Rovers legend Darrell Clarke has emerged as the early bookies’ favourite to take over at the Memorial Stadium after the club parted ways with Inigo Calderon over the weekend, writes Daniel Hargraves.

Rovers will be looking for their fourth permanent manager in 18 months ahead of their return to League Two following relegation.

Clarke's name has been put forward by numerous Gasheads as their personal preference to get the job with the ex-Gas manager, right, currently out of work having left Barnsley in March and is currently priced at 4/9 to make a return to north Bristol.

It has been nearly six-and-a-half years since Clarke left Rovers having spent four-and-a-half years in charge in BS7. The 47-year-old guided the Pirates to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One and led to the Gas’ highest finish for the last 25 years - 10th in the third tier in the 2016/17 campaign.
