Education School shuts after more than 50 years

BRISTOL Waldorf School permanently closed its doors yesterday after more than 50 years.

The school, founded in 1973, confirmed in October it would be closing at the end of the year due to financial difficulties. Staff speeches yesterday were followed by teachers, pupils, alumni and parents gathering in the playground at midday to share their wishes on a 'special memory tree'.

The school's leadership thanked staff for their 'immense professionalism' during the period leading up to the end of the year. "Administrative matters aside, we simply want to thank you," a letter to staff from the school's board of trustees said.

"You have faced uncertainty with immense professionalism. You have kept the rhythm of the school alive.

"Because of you, our students have finished the term feeling held, seen and cared for. That is a remarkable achievement under the circumstances."
