Championship to increase number of play-off teams to six

THE Championship playoffs will expand from four to six teams starting next season after EFL clubs approved the proposal at yesterday’s all-club meeting.
Teams finishing between third and eighth will now be eligible for the postseason tournament, mirroring the National League's format. The aim is to create more excitement in the Championship run-in by giving additional clubs a shot at Premier League promotion
The two winners of the eliminator ties will progress to the semifinals (against the teams finishing third and fourth in the table). These games will be played over two legs.
The two winning semifinalists will meet in the Championship playoff final.
The EFL format has been in place since the 1989-90 season, featuring two-leg semifinals followed by a single-leg final at Wembley.
