'A step in the right direction' School has improved - but still has work to do

THE leadership of Cotham Gardens Primary School has been praised for making improvements since a damning Ofsted report in December last year.

However, the school - on Cotham Grove in Redland - remains under 'special measures' after a monitoring visit in September.

The chief executive of the school trust, Chris Seaton, said the positive report from inspectors' latest visit was a step in the right direction.

"Prior to the December 2024 inspection, Cotham Gardens Primary experienced considerable change and turbulence in leadership and governance," he said.

"Ofsted inspectors at that time rightly identified that standards were not as high as they should be. This monitoring visit confirms that the new leadership structure and governing body are both determined and ambitious in their plans for excellence. I am so proud of the whole team."

Despite the positive update, inspectors determined the school should remain in special measures and recommended no early-stage teachers were appointed at Cotham Gardens.
