Flower power set to raise cash for upkeep of charming church

WORK is gathering pace behind the scenes on a popular flower festival that transforms a historic village church into a vibrant collection of colourful floral creations every year.
St Peter’s Church Flower Festival in South Hanningfield takes place this year from Saturday, September 6 to Monday, September 8.
Money raised will go towards the upkeep of the beautiful church which dates back to the 1180 and is a popular choice for weddings.
This year's theme is A Posy of Poetry, and visitors can expect to be enchanted by 20 carefully and imaginatively-made displays created with stunning flowers and handmade supporting props.
“We have poems from the unusual to humorous and children’s poems too,” said organiser Sylvia Roberts, from Wickford. “Every one is varied and every one tells a story.
“We've even got one which was used as a code during World War II, which I’m doing. They are all very colourful and very interesting.
