Billericay facing a three-way thrilling race for league title

BILLERICAY Town manager Gary McCann has called on his side to ‘finish the job they started way back in August’ when they go into a thrilling final day of the season.

- By MICHAEL REEVES

The Blues returned to the top of the Isthmian League Premier table on Easter Monday after coming through a hard-fought Essex derby with a 3-0 win at Canvey Island.

Those three points, which came hot on the heels of Good Friday's 2-0 home victory over Folkestone Invicta, along with Dartford being held 2-2 at Cray Wanderers and Horsham claiming a 3-1 success at Bognor Regis Town mean the top three sides go into the final day of the season all on 84 points.

Billericay head into their home clash with Cheshunt top of the pile with a plus-39 goal difference with Horsham, in second on plus 38 going into their home match with Hashtag United, and Dartford in third with a plus-31 difference ahead of their visit from Carshalton Athletic.

On paper, with Cheshunt in 15th place and Carshalton and Hashtag in seventh and eighth respectively, Billericay appear to have the easier task, but McCann wants one big last push for all involved with the club.
