Bid to grow biosecurity with trees and hedges

COUNCILLORS will consider potential areas where more trees and hedgerows could be planted to avoid falling further behind national targets.

Members of East Lindsey District Council’s overview committee will consider the tree and hedgerow strategy action plan, which was developed by the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership.

The partnership - which covers East Lindsey, Boston and South Holland - said the proposed policy was developed in response to a mapping exercise which showed that approximately 6.5% of land in south and east Lincolnshire was classified to have tree cover and 1.5% was classified as having hedgerow coverage.

This is against the national average tree cover of 12.8% and a national hedgerow cover average of 2.5%.
