A DRUNK dad avoided a jail sentence after attacking his own daughter following a row at Christmas, a court heard.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court
David Treadwell had downed 15 pints of beer when he told his daughter that she was taking advantage of his wife over childcare.
She responded by throwing a can at him, which resulted in him chucking a dog bowl at her, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court was told.
It missed but she was covered in water. The 59-year-old then hit her in the face and strangled her, the court was told.
His wife intervened before he chillingly asked if they both wanted to die.
The court was told that the family had been staying in a holiday cottage in Oakamoor, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, when he lost his cool on Christmas Eve last year.
Treadwell, from Tipton, Sandwell, later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation. He was sentenced to 13 months in prison, which was suspended for 18 months.
