Unbeaten league start continues on

Bath continued their unbeaten league run against Taunton St Andrews at North Parade on Saturday.

After skipper Harry Ellison elected to bat, Bath lost opener Jack Scrivens (9) with only 25 on the board.

Brad Porteous (37) and Charlie Brain (8) took the hosts past 50 before both fell inside two overs.

In-form Sam Young (76) and, later in the innings, Will Hope (47) batted well with the middle and the lower order to take Bath up to 285-9 from their 50 overs.

Taunton's reply never really got going as they slipped to 19-2 inside six overs. Bath’s seam attack kept up the pressure, taking regular wickets thanks to some excellent slip catching.

With no Taunton batter passing 20, Bath bowled their visitors out for just 112 in under 30 overs. Spen-cer Gammon (3-15), George Axtell (2-20) and Louis Brown (2-14) did most of the damage as Bath picked up the maximum 20 points to remain top of Premier One.

The second side travelled to Golden Hill 2nd and the hosts got off to a steady start on a very dry wicket after opting to bat. The left-arm spin of Josh Sutton found the breakthrough before Golden Hill's other opener was soon bowled by the pace of Sam Barnes (2-11).

The spinners then took control as Harry Allen (3-13) and Joe Weare (4-41) combined well to restrict the hosts to 129 where they were bowled out in the 43rd over.

Bath's reply got off to the worst start as Josh Norgrove (4) was bowled. Young opener Sam Price and Kester Moseley batted steadily together to take the visitors to 78, before the latter was trapped in front for a useful 31.

Although Bath lost Charlie Russell and Hamish Bell in quick succession, Allen (11*) capped off a fine all-round performance to help Price (57*) past the target in the 32nd over to win by six wickets. Bath picked up 19 points and remain second in the Bristol & District League Senior Division.

Bath had made it through to the second round of the Somerset Intermediate Cup last Wednesday with a narrow success at Timsbury.
