Gig-goers may see their travel plans derailed
May 22, 2025
|Bath Chronicle
People heading to gigs next month featuring popstar Robbie Williams and controversial American R&B star Chris Brown could be impacted by a major railway closure.
Rail services from the Bristol and Bath area to South Wales will suffer massive disruption when track replacement in South Gloucestershire will see trains to Cardiff diverted via Gloucester for two weeks.
The diversion will add at least an hour to journeys between the cities and will also see a huge cut in the number of services between Bristol Parkway and London Paddington.
From Monday, June 9, until Friday, June 20, Network Rail will be replacing track in the Filton and Stoke Gifford areas, as well as completing other work between Pilning and Severn Beach.
It will also mean that the Severn Tunnel is closed so that engineers can carry out maintenance on the overhead power lines.
The thousands of people who commute between Cardiff, Newport and Bristol each day for work will be inconvenienced, as will those travelling for leisure.
