Witness retracts ‘coerced' testimony

A key witness in a case based on alleged collusion in the most recent Senate election has filed a petition with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) seeking to retract his earlier testimony implicating the Bhumjaithai (BJT) Party, claiming the statements were made due to threats, coercion, and political manipulation.

According to a source, the witness submitted a written statement to the DSI director-general at the end of October. The document details how the person's previous testimony - alleging that individuals linked to the BJT were involved in coordinating the election results was given under duress.

The witness said he initially testified that a list was prepared to rig the election of senators in an unfair and dishonest manner.

"I was threatened and misled into giving statements that were not true," the witness wrote, adding he wished to correct the record and "state the facts as they truly are".
