Unions protest to pressure French PM on budget plan

October 03, 2025

|

Bangkok Post

French unions were holding a new round of anti-austerity protests yesterday, seeking to maintain pressure on Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu as he struggles to pull together a budget proposal.

Walkouts are planned in sectors including education and transport, though they are expected to be less disruptive than protests held on Sept 18. Air traffic disruptions should remain limited, with only Paris Beauvais airport expected to reduce flight schedules. High-speed trains and the Paris metro should run normally.

Unions called for the latest round of protests after meeting with Mr Lecornu last week. Labour leaders said the talks didn’t offer any clarity on concessions he’s willing to make in his draft budget.
