Three people arrested over ties to 'Sika Golf' scandal

Three more people have been arrested for embezzling temple funds as authorities expanded their investigation into the infamous “Sika Golf” sex scandal, which has rocked the nation’s monastic order.
Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew, deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), said the suspects were arrested following raids on three locations in Surat Thani, Phichit and Samut Songkhram on Wednesday.
Thiwakorn Deephrai, 59, the former abbot of Wat Yai Chom Prasat in Samut Sakhon, was arrested at a meditation centre in Surat Thani. He was wanted for malfeasance and embezzling temple assets.
Investigators believe he transferred over seven million baht to Wilawan Emsawat, also known as “Sika Golf”, with whom he was allegedly romantically involved. Daily transfers of 500-3,000 baht were traced between 2018 and 2025.
