Young volunteers recently gave their time to make pillows and bags for bedridden patients

- STORY: ARUSA PISUTHIPAN

Wipraporn Jongprasert and Wanikul Kaeohong are typical teens who could have slept in on the weekends and played video games all day, but on a recent Sunday, they decided to get up early to distribute handmade items to impoverished patients.

"Volunteering is the best way to know those who need help get it. If you just donate money, it could go somewhere else," said Wipraporn, 12.

Wipraporn and her parents recently participated in a charity activity titled "Jitasa: Tham Dee Puer Mae", translated as "The Volunteer Spirit: Doing Good For Mothers", which took place earlier this month at Thai Xiang Tham Foundation in Nakhon Pathom province. The event was inaugurated by the chief of the local district, Itipong Jaktremongkhon.

Held to mark the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother's birthday on Aug 12, the event was organised through collaborations from various foundations including the Thai Xiang Tham Foundation, Tai Zhong Terd Kunnatham Foundation, Anukroh Panya Foundation, Watchara Duang Kaew Foundation, Pratheep Kunnatham Foundation and Terd Udomtham Foundation. The event was also supported by the I-Kuan Tao Association of Thailand.
