NACC member rejects bribery allegation

National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) member Ekkawit Watchawalku insists he is not involved in the bribery case involving former deputy national police chief Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, says a source familiar with the matter.
Mr Ekkawit was accused by Pol Col Phakphum Phisamai, a former aide to Pol Gen Surachate, of receiving a bribe valued at some 10 million baht in the form of gold bars weighing a total of 246 baht (3.75 kilogrammes).
Pol Col Phakphum claimed he was instructed to deliver the gold to an NACC commissioner at the Southern Thai Association on Kanchanaphisek Road in Bangkok on Sept 1, 2024.
The source said Mr Ekkawit told an urgent NACC meeting on Dec 30 that he had not committed the acts alleged in media reports. He suggested he may have been targeted by certain individuals within the commission.
