Minister faces uproar over Cambodian student’s fate

Thailand is obligated to ensure the safety and well-being of a 13-year-old Cambodian student in Surin province after he was taken into custody over his immigration status on Thursday, Social Development and Human Security Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said yesterday.
Mr Varawut revealed that the student and his mother are now under the care of the provincial Shelter for Children and Families.
He said he had ordered the Surin Human Security Emergency Management Centre (HuSEC) and the Department of Children and Youth's Provincial Together Possible Team to look into the matter after receiving the report.
