Govt eyes damages for crane tragedy
The government will seek the Attorney-General’s advice on terminating contracts with Italian-Thai Development Plc (ITD) and pursuing damages, following the deadly crane collapse on the Thai-China high-speed rail project in Sikhiu district, Nakhon Ratchasima.
Deputy Prime Minister Borwornsak Uwanno said yesterday that officials are working with the Attorney-General on legal options to cancel the contractor's agreement and recover compensation. The move would also allow victims and affected families to join as co-plaintiffs.
He said the case concerns an administrative contract, not a civil one, and must prioritise public interest and safety.
