Govt targets loopholes in selling rules

The Alcohol Control Committee is reviewing regulations to tighten restrictions on self-service alcohol dispensers by expanding the legal definition of a convenience store to close loopholes exploited by some retailers.
Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat, who chaired the committee meeting yesterday, said the review was prompted by changes in retail business models that have allowed some alcohol sellers to avoid registering as convenience stores and circumvent existing restrictions.
