Potterheads are one step closer to seeing a television series about boy wizard Harry Potter come to life, two years after it was announced.

- DERRICK BRYSON TAYLOR

HBO said on Monday that it had cast John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Casting for major roles including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley has not been announced, and the series — based on the bestselling books by J.K. Rowling — does not have an official title or air date.

HBO also said Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse were joining the cast as Quirinus Quirrell and Argus Filch.
