PM wants answers after soldier hurt
Thailand has lodged a formal protest with Cambodia and demanded an explanation after a mortar round fired from Cambodian territory landed on Hill 469 in Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani province, injuring one Thai soldier.
“The Thai military and security agencies have formally protested to their Cambodian counterparts and requested an explanation to determine Thailand’s response,” Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said yesterday.
“The Foreign Affairs Ministry has also sent an official letter to Cambodia's foreign minister seeking clarification over what Thailand considers a breach of the ceasefire.”
Mr Anutin, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Defence Minister Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit, and National Security Council secretary-general Chatchai Bangchuad addressed the incident at a joint press briefing.
