Anutin 2 govt’s foreign policy outlook
February 17, 2026
|Bangkok Post
To say that diplomacy under the upcoming Anutin 2 government will differ significantly from its first, short-lived period in power would be an exaggeration.

However, one thing is clear: following the electoral landslide, the new cabinet will be rock solid. A government with such stability will exert a strong influence on Thai foreign policy.Last Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a meeting of senior ministers chaired by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to discuss Thailand’s outlook. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun, and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuengketkeow were also in attendance. They reaffirmed that building trust and confidence to ensure political and economic stability and progress will be the country’s top priority under the next government.
Three key issues involving neighbouring countries were again highlighted — Myanmar, Cambodia, and the deep South. These policies, however, will be recalibrated to make them more effective.
At first glance, the outlook for Anutin 2's foreign policy closely resembles that of the previous administration. However, interviews with key policymakers and advisers reveal that Thai diplomacy will become more firmly grounded in principles.
This should be regarded as a new impetus, as the incoming administration aims to strengthen trust with key foreign partners. At the same time, it seeks to reinforce national security and stability, while rebuilding Thailand’s standing in the global community despite ongoing uncertainties.
