He was booked for alleged corruption in approval for pharmacy colleges; process underwent major changes after his election
The election of tainted Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) president Montu Patel has come under the scanner as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) digs into his involvement in alleged corrupt practices in approvals to pharmacy colleges.
After his election in 2022, key changes were made in the process for giving approval to these colleges, including replacing on-site inspection with online applications and virtual inspection.
In its enquiry after a complaint from the Union health ministry secretary, the CBI scrutinised the methods by which the colleges received accreditation, revealing a departure from norms and a lack of transparency.
