Supreme Court order to move stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter homes has raised questions about the feasibility of such a move in Ahmedabad
The recent Supreme Court order to relocate all stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR to shelter homes has stirred the hornet's nest across the country. In Ahmedabad, where the stray dog population exceeds 2.1 lakh, the practicality of this order is being questioned due to a lack of adequate shelter infrastructure.
Riddhi Sanghavi, trustee of Masoom Charitable Trust for animal welfare, who has also filed a review petition against the SC order, said, "It is inhuman to confine such a large number of stray dogs in shelter homes, especially when there are no adequate facilities in place. This order is also in direct violation of the provisions of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2023."
