Simmonds lands late winner to stun Bears

JOE Simmonds stunned Bristol with a last-gasp penalty as Chiefs finished their home Premiership campaign on a high, and lifted confidence heading into their crunch European battle next weekend.
The fly-half kept cool and composed to nail his kick with a minute remaining as 14-man Exeter defied the odds to make his final home game a triumphant one.
Simmonds, one of a posse of players departing the club this summer, was excellent throughout as Exeter came through despite playing with 14 men for 62 minutes.
They will have to head to Bordeaux for the Champions Cup semi-final almost certainly without Welsh lock Dafydd Jenkins who was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Bears’ prop Max Lahiff.
Director of rugby Rob Baxter said: “We will turn up next weekend... we’ve beaten them before and I believe we can surprise some people.
“The one thing we didn’t need today was to go down to 14 men so early. Heineken Cup qualification is still on the cards and we wanted to win this game and the last one too.
