Radwan motivated to make up for lost time
November 19, 2023
|The Rugby Paper
ADAM Radwan’s relishing Newcastle’s new expansive style this season, with the winger confident it will lead to an England recall.
The 25-year-old’s been in scintillating form for the Falcons since enduring an operation and an extended summer lay-off, scoring three tries including a magical moment against Gloucester last month.
Radwan admits his form “dipped” last season, and questions whether that was due to playing and training with a broken thumb and in a hand mould for more than 12 months, from when he suffered the injury in spring 2022.
But after undergoing the overdue surgery, the Premiership’s fastest current player – clocking 100m in 10.72 seconds – believes he’s back to his best, and needs to show that to England boss Steve Borthwick.
He told The Rugby Paper: “I’ve not heard from Steve or anyone at England since he came in, but that’s not a problem. I just need to focus on my performances at Newcastle, turn that around and show I’m worth a recall. That’s what I want and what I’m working hard towards.
“I had thumb surgery in the summer and it is 100 per cent now – but I was injured for quite a while, all of last season, and over the last few games of the season before that in fact.
