Oghre enjoying life with Bristol

GABRIEL Oghre was one of a number of players who last season found themselves having to pick up the pieces after their clubs folded and they found themselves out of work.

The hooker had established himself in the Wasps side and in 2021 had been called into the England squad. Having turned 24 at the end of the previous season, his future looked settled. And then Wasps followed Worcester into administration.

“It was pretty devastating,” said Oghre, who has started Bristol’s last three matches having had his debut for the Bears delayed by a foot injury. There were a lot of moving parts with everything that happened.

“I was fortunate in that I only had myself to worry about while other players had families to look after, but it was still stressful because you were suddenly plunged into the unknown and found yourself moving around.”

Oghre joined Leicester on a short-term contract and then found himself in France playing for Bordeaux-Begles who needed injury cover at hooker.
