French firepower subdues England

ENGLAND’S hopes of winning a first Junior World Cup since 2016 were dashed as a formidable French team fought back to claim victory in the semi-final.
England started superbly and raced into a 17-0 lead after excellent scores from Sam Harris and Alex Wills before Mathis Ferté and Paul Costes reduced the deficit to just three points.
Chandler Cunningham-South continued ham-South continued his brilliant tournament to give England a 24-14 buffer at the break, but France roared back in the second-half as a penalty try and scores from each of France’s famed back row took them clear of England.
The two sides exchanged scores in the final ten minutes, but France ended up with a handsome victory to set up a final with Ireland.
“I’m unbelievably proud of this squad,” said England captain Lewis Chessum. “I think everyone can be proud of themselves.”
