SOUTHEND United missed out on the National League playoffs despite coming from behind to beat Wealdstone at Roots Hall.
The Shrimpers finished eighth despite the issues that saw the club in a transfer embargo since September.
And Blues boss Kevin Maher was delighted with the spirit of his side. “We knew it was out of hands and all we could do was win our game,” he said.
“We did that and I’m delighted with the players, the result today and how everyone has gone about their business.
“One thing you can never question about this group of players is the character.
“The way they’ve gone on for the shirt despite everything they’ve had to deal with is testament to them and they’ve done it again today.
