Simon Pegg has portrayed the supporting boffin before in both the Star Trek and the Mission: Impossible movie franchises. In The Undeclared War, he’s playing it straight as GCHQ chief of operations Danny Patrick. He was flattered to get the part, given his association with more comedic roles, and frightened by the story. Pegg read the script for the six-hour drama in a single day, not something he usually manages with feature-fi lm screenplays.
