STEPHEN ALLEN TAKES A TRIP TO WATCH ENGLAND BASED TWEEDMOUTH RANGERS ON THEIR SCOTTISH CUP DEBUT...
TWEEDMOUTH Rangers created their own little bit of history when they became just the second English club to take part in the Scottish Cup.
In the far north-east corner of Northumberland, less than three miles from the Anglo-Scottish border, Rangers took to the field at the end of August.
Dubbed the 'biggest game of the club's history', around 200 spectators witnessed the East of Scotland League's entry at the preliminary second round stage as they took on Dundee's Lochee United in the second-oldest competition in association football history.
Not bad for a club formed 15 years ago, which started life in the North Northumberland Football League.
Such was the occasion, the game garnered national media attention. BBC Scotland previewed the game, and You-Tuber Sam North was on hand to provide the Footy Adventures treatment.
With a playing squad comprising mainly of locals, from both sides of the border, it would be a proud day for the Berwick-based club.
Tweedmouth play their home games at Berwick Rangers' Shielfield Park. No strangers to the Scottish Cup themselves, the Dream Team caused one of the biggest upsets in Scottish football when they beat Glasgow Rangers 1-0 in 1967. On the other side of the perimeter fence lies Tweedmouth's former home, Old Shielfield.
The groundshare was a crucial factor in the club being awarded their Scottish FA licence in June at Hampden Park. It means days like this can happen.
