A Rosy Affair

Tatler covered the unveiling of Sparks of Roses, an immersive scent installation by Maison Francis Kurkdjian at the Shanghai West Bund Art & Design Fair, emphasising cultural exchange between China and France

In November of last year, I had the exciting opportunity to travel to Shanghai, thanks to an invitation from Rustan’s Beauty, to explore the latest creations from the prestigious French perfume house Maison Francis Kurkdjian. During my visit, I had the privilege of interviewing the brand’s founder and master perfumer, Francis Kurkdjian.

Titled Sparks of Roses, the exhibit was an engaging art installation that combined smell and sight, offering a memorable experience. Celebrating 60 years of friendship between China and France, it illustrated the rich cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Those who could see the installation could immerse themselves in the experience using augmented reality devices to see virtual rose petals. A documentary showcased the creation process and craftsmanship behind the installation.

Sparks of Roses highlighted Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s dedication to blending art, fragrance and cultural heritage. It guided attendees on a sensory journey inspired by the journeys of roses and porcelain from China to France.
