There is of course a lot to be said for the smartphone camera these days. Almost all of the time, they'll likely be all you need - with manufacturers doing more and more to tempt you in with better and better lens and sensor specs.

For day-to-day shooting they're the business, but sometimes you'll be doing something - or going somewhere - that deserves a bit of gear that's just that bit better, helping to ensure that you get the highest quality shots possible.
