Samsung QN990F Neo

Samsung's top-tier 8K TV is immensely bright - but is that enough?

Samsung QN990F Neo

Every year when it comes to testing the best TVs, you can be sure that there'll be a new 8K-resolution set from Samsung - the one and only brand pushing the Ultra-Ultra-HD dream - and, sure enough, in 2025 it's the QN990F on review here.

This is Samsung's no-holds-barred take on TVs: positioned above the also-8K QN900F, it features a Wireless One Connect Box design, so you can mount the ultra-slender panel on to a wall and, aside from power, have zero cables trailing behind it. Unlike the Samsung S95F - which is the best OLED TV of this year (and 4K, as that technology doesn't venture to higher resolutions for TV products) - the QN990F features a super-bright Mini-LED panel that's, frankly, eye-searing in its delivery.

Samsung calls the QN990F a Neo QLED. That means it's a Quantum Dot panel (the 'Q' part of the name), introducing an additional layer for enhanced colour. More importantly, however, the 'Neo' aspect of the name denotes that Mini-LED panel.

We're testing the 75in version here, but the QN990F is available in 65 and 85in sizes, too, and there's also a huge 98-incher available in the USA. The 8K resolution benefits from increasing panel sizes, so it's worth picking up the larger sets if you’re going to make the leap.

imageBox of delights

Unboxing a 75in TV is nothing short of an ordeal, because most televisions' stands are added when the panel is in a horizontal position. The QN990F has different ideas, though, with its stand sections designed to be put on while the TV is still vertically positioned in the box.
