Is Samsung's super slim phone a big fat success?
-
It’s not often a new phone blows people’s minds, especially now iterative updates are more commonplace, but that’s exactly what happened when the Galaxy S25 Edge was revealed this year.
Witnessing Samsung’s latest handset for the first time evokes a real ‘wow’ moment. Out of the hundreds of the phones we've seen on T3 over the years, the S25 Edge’s combination of low weight and a really bold screen with minimal bezel, is a real eye-catcher from the off. But is this striking handset a true revelation or is it a case of style over substance?
Samsung's slimmest-ever S series handset, at a mere 5.8mm, the S25 Edge leads the 'thin-is-in' pack. It's also rather light at just 168g. Adding to the overall visual appeal is a 6.68-inch display at a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, which is the approximate norm for many flagships these days. It's a little smaller than the Galaxy S25 Ultra as a result.
Thanks to a 91.2% screen-to-body ratio, the edge bezel is as trim as other S25 models. It also features all the latest mod cons, from a 120Hz refresh rate to HDR10+ high dynamic range support. It's bright, too, at up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness.
As with the other models in the S25 range, the display is stunning to behold, easily the equal of even the top-of-the-range S25 Ultra, albeit in a package with smaller bezels.
The S25 Edge is also the first phone from Samsung to feature Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Recently introduced, it's the toughest resistive glass you'll find on any phone right now, designed to avoid cracks upon drop impact. You really need that added robustness as there's no case in the box, and adding one is going to offset the very point of the super thin design of the phone.
