IT'S DOUBLE THE LOVE FOR THE DOTING NANNA OF NEW TWINS

Former Perfect Match star Debbie Newsome beams her brightest TV smile when talking about the thrill of becoming a grandmother for the fifth and sixth time - simultaneously! "My heart melts with joy every time I'm with my grandkids," an exuberant Debbie, who turns 64 on April 26, tells New Idea. "I just love being a nanna."

We're catching up with Debbie at the home of her son, Troy, and his partner, Tayla, in NSW's Hunter Valley region. Nestled in Debbie's arms are her newest grandkids, Troy and Tayla’s twin daughters Vahli Cove and Zyah Rain. It’s been a few months of anguish for the entire family, with the girls arriving two months prematurely in December 2024.

“They bounced into the world 22 minutes apart, with Vahli weighing only 1.8 kg and Zyah 1.6 kg,” Debbie explains. “We were on tenterhooks. The plan was for me to be at their births, but it all happened so suddenly.

“They were so tiny, and were on oxygen for three days in the newborn intensive care unit. Fortunately, they were born healthy and after 40 days in hospital care, they are now thriving and absolutely gorgeous.”
