It started with CK One. At its inception, in 1994, the light, citrus-forward fragrance was a breath of fresh air. A unisex scent? What a pioneering concept! But calling it the first would be misleading. The fragrance industry’s open secret is that smells have no gender. The fact that you consider some of them masculine or feminine is thanks to marketing. Sure, you may prefer wood and spice over florals, but if you’ve never dared to apply a spritz, you’re missing an array of aromas you might love. That’s why a new breed of genderless fragrances—covering the whole spectrum of scents—is an exciting advancement in the pursuit of smelling great.
