Sarah Ruggins has become the fastest person ever to cycle the length of the UK and back, completing the 1,677-mile journey from Land's End to John o’ Groats and back in just five days, 11 hours and 14 minutes.

The 37-year-old investment strategist’s feat is even more remarkable considering she suffered a debilitating illness as a teenager that saw her lose her ability to walk. Ruggins beat the previous overall record - set by James MacDonald in 2017 - by an astounding six hours and 43 minutes. She also shattered the women's record by an even more substantial margin: four days, 17 hours and 40 minutes.
