Birds' travels and memories influence the range of songs in a community, shows a new three-year-long study. University of Oxford researchers found new immigrants to a bird community tend to adapt to sing local tunes but also enrich song diversity.

The team spent three years collecting over 20,000 hours of sound recordings from a wild population of great tits in Wytham Woods, Oxfordshire, which has been studied for the past 77 years as part of the Wytham Great Tit Study.
